After what amounted to two opening weekends it was time to settle in for the rest of the run of the 2017 festival. Pirate weekend is a fan favourite and historically on the calendar this weekend can be a hot one. We weren’t disappointed on either count as a shipload of people had a hot time at the ole festival this week!
As I said in my first post of the season this week I’m comparing this weekend to second weekend of prior seasons. Last year was a really good year (Sunday was a record), yet this year’s numbers aren’t off by much. The five year average for Saturday is 30,718 and Sunday 25,671. Honestly, so far it’s shaping up to be a pretty average year. Nothing wrong with that!

Saturday it was hot. It was the hottest I’ve been at faire in a long time. People I know who normally aren’t bothered as much by the heat were having trouble dealing with it. I know by evening I was totally drained, got off work, took a shower and then crashed for the night. It was that bad. Sunday started out warm, but about 1:30 in the afternoon the breeze kicked up, humidity and temperature dropped, and it turned out to be a really nice day. The weather, as it was said was “Festivalish”. 🙂 Alas, the prognosticators forecast warm and humid for the upcoming weekend with an even chance of rain. Wet toga contest anyone?
Coming up- Roman Bacchanal. Get your best
