After our new dates for opening in 2017 I wasn’t sure what to expect this week. Was it going to be like a second weekend or opening weekend? How would the weather affect the crowds? The theme this week was 1001 Dreams (a.k.a. Fairy Weekend), and is usually always popular with the families, if not with the Beefeaters. (Glitter is hard to get out of your collar!) In the end, while the numbers were not record breaking, they weren’t bad, and people seemed to have a good time, even though the heat drained the energy out of you by the end of the day.
So, as I discussed last week I’m still comparing this weekend to opening weekend, which is fair considering the calendar and people’s perceptions of when TRF usually opens. Also, the last five years have seen an average of 28,546 for Saturday and 23,044 for Sunday. Gee, those numbers look an awful lot like out the actuals for the weekend. I’m very interested to see how things progress as the season continues.
|2017||Partly Cloudy, High 89°, Low 67°, 74% Avg. Humidity.||Partly Cloudy, High 90°, Low 70 °, 65% Avg. Humidity.|
|2016||Clear, High 85°, Low 63 °, 53% Avg. Humidity.||Clear, High 81°, Low 57 °, 30% Avg. Humidity.|
The weather, in a word, miserable, and not just because I was wearing an awesome new uniform. It was hot and humid with a side of almost no breeze, and guests and workers collapsing from the heat all over the faire. This weekend’s forecast looks to be hot and even more humid if that’s possible, so when you come out be sure to hydrate. Remember: there are water fountains at all of the privies.
Coming up- Pirate Weekend, which is always popular. I hope the heat doesn’t keep people away…
See you at the gates… Until then, ‘Fare thee well!’
