By The Numbers: 2016 Week Two

Continuing my discussion and comparisons about the Texas Renaissance Festival attendance and weather, looking at the Second Weekend 2016- 1001 Dreams. In total contrast to last week, this weekend’s the weather was rather unpleasant, and not just for someone wearing a heavy double-breasted tunic. (Lots of people falling out from the heat!) It did not, however, deter guests from attending. The fairies are always popular with the families.

By The Numbers: 2016 Week One

It was suggested to me that I that I should write a little every week about the attendance numbers from the weekend and maybe compare them to the previous year as well as provide a little information about weather conditions or other factors that affect attendance. OK, challenge accepted! Continue reading

Getting Ready for 2015!

The Texas Renaissance Festival posted some pictures yesterday on their blog about their final preparations for opening weekend.  They even mentioned the Beefeaters and called us ‘highly popular’. (No, really!)

So I stated thinking about what pictures and descriptions I could post about our own preparations for the 2015 season. Digging through boxes trying to find my tights? Loading up at the grocery store with a shopping cart full of beer? Standing in front of the mirror practising taking tickets?  Scintillating screen captures of me updating code for the web page? Yeah, none of those really appealed to me either.

I did think it was worth a minute to brag about being ‘highly popular’  and to let you know we’re preparing too, and we’ll be there and (mostly) ready Saturday morning at nine!

See you at the gates… Until then, ‘Fare thee well!’

Yes, Some of Our Posts Are Missing

Someone finally noticed a couple of weeks ago and asked “Didn’t there used to be some posts from after Halloween last year?” No you’re memory isn’t wrong, (at least not about that). Continue reading

Texas Renaissance Brings Back Pocket Dragons Creator Real Musgrave for its 40th Anniversary

In honour of the Texas Ren Fest 40th anniversary, the poster will be by Real Musgrave

In honour of the Texas Ren Fest 40th anniversary, the poster will be by Real Musgrave

Well this press release from the TRF made me happy, they are getting world renowned artist Real Musgrave to do the poster and program again this year. It’s been over 20 years since he was the ‘Official Artist’ for the festival, so a lot of people probably don’t remember, but I always preferred his whimsical creations to the posters with photographs.

Real is probably best known for his Pocket Dragon collectable sculptures and artwork. I learned from the press release there was even an animated TV series: “Pocket Dragon Adventures”. He is now retired and back in Texas after living abroad for some time.

Real will also be available for signings opening weekend, so I may have to get in line to get a signed poster to go with the ones I have from back in the day. Real and his wife Muff Musgrave will donate all proceeds to the Humane Society of Flower Mound Texas, where they now reside.

I just want to complement Captain George (retired) on the gallery. I have been enjoying both the pictures and the captions he has added.
Great job.
